Ventura County Public Health Community Health Nursing accepts referrals from many sources throughout the community, including physicians, social workers and the general public. With this home visiting program, a free personal nurse can help not only with breastfeeding support, but health education, mental health screenings, child development screenings and more. Most PHNs have their Certified Lactation Counselor certification or equivalent. They will complete a breastfeeding assessment and provide support within scope, and work in collaboration with the IBCLC as needed.
Based on needs, circumstance or preference, individuals will be assigned a public health nurse that will best support them.
