Heather is a Registered Nurse and lactation consultant with over 14 years experience working with mothers and babies in our community. Currently, she works as an IBCLC and Supervisor for Women’s Infants and Childrens (WIC) Peer Counseling Program in Ventura County. Although passionate about nursing, Heather spends the majority of her time with her three active young children and loving husband, John. Due to her own personal experiences with breastfeeding, Heather has a passion to provide compassionate breastfeeding support to all mothers in our community.

Patty Zoll is the WorkLife Program manager for the County of Ventura.  She provides work/life resources for an employee base of over 8000.  Patty was instrumental in getting the County’s Lactation Accommodation policy written and approved in 2012.  She works with various County agencies to ensure that employees have the appropriate accommodations for pumping breastmilk at work.

Patty’s educational background is in Early Childhood Development and Education.  She is adjunct faculty in the Child Development department at Moorpark Community College.

At home in Ventura, Patty oversees two teenagers, and a flurry of home improvement projects.

Andrea Rodriguez is a CPA at Vance, Thrift and Biller LLP in Ventura. She received her B.S. in Business Administration at CSUCI. She became passionate about breastfeeding advocacy, support and education through her breastfeeding relationships with her two young boys. She resides in beautiful West Ventura and enjoys the beach, hiking and new adventures with her sons. She is honored and excited to join the BCVC Board of Directors.

Claudia is the Maternal Child Adolescent Health Coordinator for Ventura County Public Health.  She has been a nurse since 1989 with national and international experience in Colombia, S.A. and United States. She speaks Spanish and has years of experience and expertise in public health and working with individuals, families and communities. She has a passion for maternal, child, adolescent health issues, health promotion and health prevention in which breastfeeding is a priority for a healthy start of every child. She enjoys teaching to nursing students at California State University-Northridge. She is very family oriented and enjoys spending time with  her husband and adult children.

Kalena Lanuza, RN, MSN, FNP-C, is a Family Nurse Practitioner as well as a NICU RN. She has spent the last 12 of her almost 20 years in the nursing field caring for infants in NICUs throughout Ventura County, most recently at Los Robles Hospital. She has a special interest in promoting breastfeeding amongst premature infants and improving resources and support provided to breastfeeding dyads in the NICU environment. Kalena has a long history of both global and local volunteerism and currently volunteers as a Nurse Practitioner at various free clinics in East Ventura County. She lives in Ventura with her husband and their new baby, and is excited to collaborate with the BCVC on ways to make sure that every baby in Ventura County is breastfed.

 

Paris Maloof-BuryParis Maloof-Bury, BSN, RNC-OB, IBCLC, ICCE
Vice-Chair, Chair of Policy and Advocacy Committee

Paris Maloof-Bury is a registered nurse, lactation consultant, and childbirth educator with ten years of experience caring for families in Ventura County. She works at the bedside in labor and delivery at Community Memorial Hospital; and provides lactation consultations, teaches childbirth classes, and runs breastfeeding support groups at the CMH New Parent Resource Center. Paris is a passionate advocate for women and families, and enjoys serving her community through her involvement with various non-profit organizations and committees. She is thrilled to join the BCVC Board of Directors.

Paris and her husband, Lance, are avid swing dancers. Together they have two small children, both of whom were breastfed.

 

Amy Avelar
Director at Large

Amy Avelar is a Public Health Nutritionist with the WIC program. She has been with the WIC program for 13 years and has been a Certified Lactation Counselor for 7 years. Through her own struggles with breastfeeding, She successfully breastfed twins, and now passes on the knowledge she has learned to clients.

She has recently taken on the job as “Breastfeeding Liaison” for the WIC program going into the community to promote Breastfeeding.

Dr. Nichols is a board certified Pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). She moved to Ventura County and has been practicing pediatrics here since 2006. She is married and has two children. Dr. Nichols has become more involved in advocating for breastfeeding because of her experiences in medicine, the continued expansive evidence that it is one of the most important things a mom can do for her child, and her personal enjoyment and bonding experience with her own children while nursing. She has recently trained to become a Certified Lactation Education Counselor in 2013 and uses this knowledge in her everyday work with moms and babies.

Tara Stivers is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), childbirth educator and doula, and has been supporting new families in Ventura County since 2005. Through her business, Intuition Birth and Beyond, she provides lactation consultations, breastfeeding and childbirth classes, a weekly breastfeeding support group and other pre- and post-natal classes and workshops. She also provides breastfeeding support to families through the Ventura County Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program, a program she also helps facilitate. Tara resides in Camarillo with her husband and two children.

 

Marisa Michell Montgomery, BSN, CLC, BLSI, Nurse Educator                                    Advisory Committee

Marisa Montgomery has served our community working directly with new mothers and babies for over 30 years! She works at the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and Santa Paula Hospital (SPH) as a lactation counselor and nurse educator. She also serves as a volunteer and supports many non- profit organizations in Ventura County including BCVC.
